Inspired by a vivid childhood memory, Suchiu recalls visiting his aunt’s apartment in Windsor, where he first encountered the iconic “Sheeny Man” – a ragtag collector with his sturdy horse-drawn cart, scavenging the alleyways for discarded treasures. This simple yet unforgettable moment, meeting the man and feeding his massive horse, became a bookmark in his life, a memory forever tied to the magic of storytelling.
Look closely, and you’ll find hidden gems within the painting. Peering from a window in the background, two young children watch in cautious curiosity, reminded of a grandmother’s chilling warning that the Sheeny Man might take them away. And atop a nearby roof, a subtle nod to Fiddler on the Roof—a hidden fiddler, waiting to be discovered.
