CSS4 – Dare of Demons Rum transports you to a quiet evening on Windsor’s shoreline in June of 1928. The scene, rich in atmosphere and suspense, captures the clandestine world of Prohibition-era smuggling. A sleek mahogany boat quietly glides into the dock as a 1926 Pontiac Screenside Van rolls to a stop by the water’s edge. In a choreographed, eerie silence, burlap-wrapped packages are swiftly loaded onto the boat, while a stylishly dressed woman stands vigilant, binoculars in hand, scanning the river for any sign of danger.
This fictional narrative, carefully crafted by Suchiu, brings a hidden moment of history to life. The structure in the background, marked with an “X,” dates the painting to June 1928—right before the Ambassador Bridge, an iconic symbol of international trade and connection, began construction. The van in the foreground further ties the scene to the area’s rich history of smuggling during Prohibition.
