The Shearwater was originally commissioned as HMS Shearwater in 1900, later re-commissioned as HMCS Shearwater in 1914 when it joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Its dramatic service history spans both World Wars, with notable ties to Windsor, Ontario, including its final days as a civilian ship involved in rum-running during Prohibition.
What makes this print truly exceptional is the inclusion of a certified wooden artifact embedded in the picture’s matting—a genuine piece of the original 100-year-old aft mast from the HMCS Shearwater. This artifact adds incredible provenance to the artwork, making each print a rare treasure.
