A tribute to a genre that has shaped the roots of all modern music, Suchiu’s Resurrection Of The Blues is a testament to the uncertain future of the blues as a musical genre.
In Resurrection Of The Blues, Suchiu paints a future wherein blues music is becoming extinct, depicted by the main subject of his painting, a blues musician, bowing his head in a dilapidated house, falling apart in neglect. Closely looking, spectators will identify that the glossy black figures standing in line are personified musical notes played by a magical blues harp off in the distance. Each personified note brings forth a brick as an offering to restore and resurrect the house to save the blues.
Like every Suchiu painting, the Wizard Of Art includes an intimate detail that develops the story into deeper layers: a “rebel note” stepping out of the line. Suchiu dedicates the rebel note in Resurrection Of The Blues to his friend Eric Burdon of The Animals, specifically, the lyrics to a song Burdon never released titled “Lionized” which he wrote for documentary movie titled A Long Walk to Freedom of Nelson Mandela.” The lyrics state: “When they force us to march in time, someone has got to step out of line.”
Two copies of the song have been hand-signed by Eric Victor Burdon – Suchiu owns one, and the other was sent directly to Nelson Mandela.
