David Hadfield on Suchiu’s Reaper’s Realm
Suchiu first began conceptualizing Reaper’s Realm after John Parks, a retired WWII pilot and a valued friend and collector of Suchiu’s, mentioned that someone had just flown the Hawker Hurricane after a five-year restoration project.
Suchiu soon learned that the pilot was Canada’s renowned David Hadfield, who would quickly receive a proposition to be a part of the artist’s latest aviation art project.
In Hawker Hurricane, Suchiu depicts the unsure emotions of the pilot returning home at dusk after a long, tumultuous war. Around the plane, feelings of loss and hope intermix, characterized by a glorious sunrise breaking up ominous storm clouds.
David Hadfield’s reaction to the finished painting was both poetic and humorous: “My boss would fire me if I flew in those conditions!”
On the back of the original Reaper’s Realm painting, Hadfield compliments the artist with a handwritten note: “You have the eye of the hurricane, Ron.”
David Hadfield has personally hand-signed every limited edition print in the highly restricted Reaper’s Realm production series. The limited edition prints as well as the original painting featuring David Hadfield’s personal message to the artist are currently available for sale.
