On its 100th anniversary, internationally renowned maritime painter Suchiu unveiled the iconic BLUENOSE Legacy, a painting and limited edition print series that would become a benchmark in the country’s art history as much as its naval legacy.
The story of Suchiu’s BLUENOSE Legacy depicts the hope and resiliency of Canada as a people. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the essentiality of health and safety superseded keeping Suchiu’s gallery’s doors open to the public, he challenged himself to try new channels to stay afloat amid the unstable waves of economic instability.
In front of a live, online audience of “stay home” viewers, he painted the BLUENOSE emerging unscathed out of a gale of tumultuous clouds and waves – just as Canada would soon rise out of the storm that was the pandemic, being older, wiser, kinder, and stronger.
